Empowering radiation oncology with AI-driven solutions to deliver safer, more adaptive, and personalized therapies
The Heilemann group develops advanced machine- and deep-learning methods to automate and optimize key components of radiation therapy. Our flagship project, Autonomous Treatment Planning, seeks to build a workflow that reduces dependency on conventional treatment planning systems by integrating novel deep learning and reinforcement learning techniques to plan, adapt, and deliver radiotherapy in near-real time—accounting for patients' anatomical changes while maintaining high safety and quality standards. In the Artificial Intelligence in Radiation Oncology (AIRO) lab, we also work on segmentation, outcome modelling, and streamlining clinical workflows to translate AI innovations directly into clinical impact
