On September 10, 2026, the Medical University of Vienna hosted a high-level panel discussion on “Agentic AI in the Clinic” at the Van Swieten Hall. Ben Glocker, Chair in Safe Deployment of Medical Imaging AI at Imperial College London, opened the event with a keynote exploring how the roles of AI and physicians may evolve in the future of healthcare.
The keynote was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Siegfried Meryn (Future Health Lab), bringing together perspectives from clinical practice, research, and industry to explore how these visions of the future can be developed further and translated into concrete strategies.
Together with Bianca Gerendas (Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Medical University of Vienna) and representatives from industrial R&D — Prof. Dr. F.-Michael Dahlweid (Chief Strategy Officer, Dedalus HealthCare), Dr. Heinrich von Busch (Innovation Owner AI for Imaging / Principal Key Expert, Siemens Healthineers), Dr. Robert Deisz (Chief Medical Officer Intensive Care, DACH Market, Philips), and Ben Glocker — he addressed some of the key questions surrounding the future of AI in medicine: How will the role of physicians change? Where will, and where should, human expertise remain essential? And how far has the technology already progressed?
Hosted by Prof. Ulrike Attenberger and Prof. Georg Langs, the panel discussion was part of the AI4Imaging Summer School, where physicians and computer scientists work together over the course of a one-week hackathon to develop AI algorithms.
